About

Skipping Stones Rocks encompasses projects including Skipping Stones Records, Popfest! New England, recording, mixing/mastering and current music projects led by . . .

. . . William Knapp is a Connecticut-based drummer who became an early fixture in the hardcore music scene, including bands CIA, Reflex From Pain, 76% Uncertain, Onion, Shelter and Explodee. He brings extensive production experience to the label, co-producing the first Shelter record “Perfection of Desire” and contributing to the “legendary” Anthrax club and art space in Fairfield County. Anthrax was an all-ages hub of the undergound / hardcore / punk rock music scene in CT throughout the 80s. Often, Knapp would be behind the mixing board, doing live sound for bands such as Fugazi, Dag Nasty, Sonic Youth, The Fall, Circle Jerks, Henry Rollins, The Descendents and others from 1984 – 1989.

. . . Christine Jewell grew up in Underhill Center, Vermont and then moved to the big suburb of Burlington in the mid-80s. The city bus was the ticket downtown, where she was involved in the Burlington Youth Council, initiated by Bernie Sanders’ wife, Jane O’Meara. This included the youth newspaper and teen center, 242 Main. Christine saw hundreds of bands in the mid-80s here, one of the longest running all-ages venues until recently. One of her first friends in the ‘burbs introduced Christine to the world of music, bands and being fans of bands like “Screaming Broccoli.” She was also lured to the mystical world of radio, leading to graveyard shifts at WRUV-FM at the University of Vermont. She landed the Saturday night slight from 11pm-2am, spinning new wave, industrial, goth, punk and experimental noise. Her first concert was the Thompson Twins in Montreal, where she went to see shows with friends . . .

Music took a back seat for many years while Christine studied fine arts at Purchase College,  studying social policy and arts administration and traveling in Europe. When music came back into Christine’s life she learned bass and started writing and recording songs.
